 Joining WAWSL
updated July 2nd 2008

Fall Season 2008

Fall season starts on Saturday August 23rd and runs each Saturday through mid-November except for Labor Day weekend. The first thing you need to do if you want to join WAWSL is to fill out our New Player Form. The second thing you should do is attend a New Player Practice. WAWSL tries to ensure placement for all players who attend one of the practices but actual placement depends on team needs and space availability. At the practice, our New Player Coordinators will evaluate which division will be the best fit for you. All levels of experience, ability, and fitness are welcome.

Practice #1: Saturday July 26th 2008
9:00am - 10:30am
Lincoln Field #3
(Note: There is a women's soccer tournament being held on Lincoln Fields #1 and #2 at the same time.  Make sure to come to Field #3, which is the one closest to the WW2 Memorial.)

Practice #2: Saturday August 2nd 2008
9:00am - 10:30am
Lincoln Field #2

You only need to attend ONE of the practices. You do not increase your chance of being placed on a team by attending both. If you can't attend either practice, you should still fill out the New Player Form and we will place you on a team if space is available, but priority is given to players who attend a practice.

Directions
Fields are located on the strip of grass between the Lincoln Memorial's reflecting pool and Independence Avenue. Field #1 is closest to the Lincoln Memorial; Field #3 is closest to the WW2 Memorial; Field #2 is in the middle. The Lincoln Memorial fields are also known as the JFK Hockey Fields. Click here for a map and directions. In case of inclement weather, please call the WAWSL hotline at 703-827-7907 to see if practices are cancelled.

What to Bring
Make sure to bring some water. Cleats, shin guards, and soccer socks will be needed once the season starts and are highly recommended for the practices but not required. Bring a soccer ball if you can because we won't have enough for everybody.

Arrive early. Practice will start promptly at 9am. We suggest showing up at 8:45 so that you are checked in and ready to go by 9am.

Summer Season 2008

WAWSL runs a smaller, less formal summer league on the weeknights starting in mid-July.  Games are 7v7 on smaller fields on the National Mall.  Space is more limited in the summer season and priority goes to players who are already in the league. The new player coordinators get the summer off, so if you want to try to join a team for the summer league, try posting or responding to an ad in the Exchange.  Please do not post in the exchange to find a spot for the fall season - follow the above procedures instead.

General Information About WAWSL

The base cost to register for a 10-game season is $78, although some teams may have additional fines or team dues. You have to be placed on a team before you can register. Please read over our FAQs and About the League to learn more about WAWSL and the skill level of our six divisions. If you want to learn more about our Over-30 Division, check out our Over-30 FAQs. If you're new to the game, you might have a few questions about the rules of soccer. Check out our Soccer Primer if you want to find out more information about the game. If you need to buy equipment, visit our Equipment page to find soccer and sporting good stores in the area.

Thank you for your interest in the Washington Area Women's Soccer League.
